Hi-8 Video to Digital Video Transfer Service

During the late 1980s, the 8MM format, also known as Video 8 or Regular 8, gained popularity for its enhanced quality and extended recording time compared to VHS-C. This format evolved first into Hi8 (or Hi-8) and subsequently into D8 (also referred to as Digital8 or D-8) while still utilizing the same tape. Measuring approximately 3.7 by 2.4 inches, the tape was roughly the size of an audio cassette. Despite its widespread use, the reign of this format concluded around 2005, giving way to MiniDVs. Although these formats were highly favored for video recording during their time, the memories captured on these old tapes won’t last forever.

This same video tape could be used to record 8mm, Hi-8 or D8 in the 1990s to early 2000s.

Regarding recording capacity, both the 8MM and Hi-8 formats could capture up to two hours of footage on a single tape. In contrast, the later Digital8 format had a recording capability of one hour per tape. However, the magnetic tape used in these formats was not designed for indefinite preservation. When these tapes were first created, the expected duration for each was only about 20 years.

Thankfully, ARS Video can transfer these tapes to modern High-definition (1920 x 1080P) MP4 digital files starting today!

Hi-8 Video to Digital Conversion Services

If you were recording home movies with a video camera in the 90s, you may have worked with Regular 8 and Hi-8 tapes.

You might even still have a stack of cartridges in your garage that you do not have a device that can handle.

This video format was very popular during the 1990s, and it often allowed you to store your home video footage without investing in a bunch of expensive equipment.

Even though this was convenient at the time, recording technology has advanced far beyond Hi8 Tapes, making them a bit of a nuisance to hold onto. That’s why so many people are interested in converting their old tapes to a brand-new digital format–to save on storage space and to keep their precious memories alive for years to come.

Why Should You Invest in 8MM, Hi-8, D8 Video Conversion?

There are several reasons why it is time to convert this video footage to a digital format.

  1. If you have a bunch of Hi-8 tapes, they are probably taking up too much space in your home or garage. Getting rid of the clutter can help you get organized!
